To start out our adventure on the right foot, we decided to go bungee jumping. What better way is there? There is a ropes course and bungee jumping bridge at a place called Wild Play in Nanaimo about 15 mins from Katina's apartment. They had a 2 for 1 coupon for bungee jumping so we thought, why not? That seems to be the running theme for this trip. So we decided that Nate and I were going to go together. We climbed the stairs to the bridge 140 feet up above a river with cliffs on both sides. It was a nice sunny day so I think my spirits were in the right form. Walking up the stairs was the scariest part for me. Once we were up there I wasn't turning back. We told the guys we were going tandem and they warned us there would be more time hanging which meant more pressure to our heads and one of our ankles would hurt more because of uneven weight distribution. After hearing that I said forget it. Strap me in! So, they wrapped a towel, just a regular old bath towel, around my ankles. To that they added some ropes and then the clip attaching me to the bungee cord. So then I walked out to the edge. I felt like I was in Snoopy and he was just saying "Wa wa wa wa wa" which I guess was "Look straight to the highway and just jump". I'm pretty sure to that I responded "Oh my God oh my God oh my God oh my God oh my God...." The longer I stood there the worse it got. I'm not sure what I was waiting for. I just couldn't bring myself to jump. There was a guy who worked there holding one of my arms. He just kept telling me "you can go right now". Finally he let go and I just kind of fell. It was amazing. Once I fell the length of the rope I swung up to almost standing position and then fell all over again. After that I swung around and bounced up and down. That part kind of hurt because the cord was jerking me around. I grabbed on to an oar and was pulled on to a trampoline raft and pulled my way to the dock. I had to walk up a bunch of stairs to the top. At that point I was out of breath and couldn't feel my body. I had a full body rush of adrenaline. I wanted to do it again! Now I knew what to expect. I was over the fear factor and was ready to just enjoy it. That's why they have the second jump half off. I didn't jump a second time. I'll save that for Australia!
Nate went after me. He waited about 5 seconds to jump copared to the 32 seconds that I stood there waiting for myself to muster up the courage to jump. Nate nearly hit the water. They ask you before you jump if you want to dip or not. Nate apparently said no. We watched a couple guys before us get wet. They looked pretty cold.
What an experience. It was a beautiful day with beautiful scenery and great people around me. I loved it.
Yesterday we went to visit Katina where she works at Lugaro Jewerly in Woodgrove Mall. I tried on some prertty diamonds. Sebastian (my sister's boyfriend) took us to a Redcedar forest called Cathedral Grove where we hiked around. They used footage of the trees for the Ewok Village in Star Wars. It was very pretty. We then went to see Qualicum Falls and Englishman River Falls. Both sites had waterfalls with a trail wrapping around them. We did some hiking and took some pictures. We made crepes for dinner with bacon, apples, and maple syrup and one with tomato, mozzerella and ranch. The dessert ones were nutella, strawberries and cream, and banana. Very yummy. We watched movie (sort of, I was sleeping) then went to bed.
We are really excited for the Free Spririt Spheres tomorrow along with a cave hike.
Stay tuned. Have a great day everyone! Miss you and love you.
