We made it!

Travel to Australia
Wednesday April 22-24

We are almost there!

I just watched Sydney pass by from way up in the clouds. Next stop, our final destination, Melbourne. 3 countries, 7 time zones, crossing the date line, a ferry, 4 planes, and 34 hours later (from the time we left Nanaimo and got our the ferry to Vancouver) we are nearing the place we will soon call home. The plane ride wasn’t bad at all. I slept the first 9 hours, waking up for a Moroccan chicken dinner around what would have been midnight. Nate had steak with mashed potatoes and vegetables. He watched a movie on the plane, The Day The Earth Stood Still, and slept the next several hours. I watched Superbad on my iTouch while he slept. The plane, a Premium B747-400, was full. There were around 300 economy passengers and the people who spent way too much on first class. We also had a turkey sandwich for snack, which was given to me in a state of sleepiness and then breakfast: French toast with sausage and coffee. It was pretty good for plane food.

We are on the last leg now from Sydney (where we had to deplane) to Melbourne. Nate is sleeping now. They just announced partly cloudy skies and 61 degrees. Sounds good to me since I hear it was snowing in parts of Michigan! Crazy. I’m feeling good. Awake and ready to take the two trains and walk to our hostel for the night, The Oasis. I get a discount for being an YHA (Australian Hostelling) member for around $68 aud per night for a private room and they have a pancake breakfast included, bonus! I’m very excited and looking forward to meeting some Australians and checking out the city. Let’s hope we can keep ourselves awake for the day and go to sleep tonight.
